George Milbrandt Parkette

In front of this parkette beside the east entrance to the Lawrence Subway Station is a 2000 City of Toronto plaque. Here's what it says:

Born and educated in Chicago, George Milbrandt moved with his family to Toronto in 1970 to join the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto. He located in North Toronto where he became an activist for local empowerment over change.
Director and President of the Bedford Park Residents' Association from 1971 to 1986, George also served as a member of the City of Toronto Assessment Reform Working Group from 1987 to 1997 and as a member of the Bedford Park School Community Coalition from 1998.
It is through the vision and determination of George Milbrandt that this parkette has been created. It stands as a testament to what can be accomplished through citizen involvement and participation. This parkette is a living enhancement to the quality of life in our community.
